All of my bathrooms have very quondam metal toothbrush holders and lather dishes attached to the wall. They are not built in. They are not attached to ceramic tiles. They are somehow stuck to the wall. I cannot figure out how they are attached or how to remove them.

I tried to see if in that location was a metal embrace and maybe there was a screw under there, but when I did that, the entire holder moved and the drywall started to tear.

Does anyone have any ideas? If it helps, this is an 80'south house.

My accessories have spiral on plates with the pretty part sliding onto and covering the screw. I'd endeavor, using a small hammer, to tap upwards to remove. Considering the historic period, you lot might accept to score around the plate with a utility knife to observe the slidey area. Many coats of paint tin seal it upwardly.

If y'all remember they are glued on utilize a hair dryer to heat the base upwards and use some fishing line or a very sparse wire to cut it off. Don't be stingy with the oestrus from hair dryer, let it heat upwards for a while.

Some of the onetime metal lather dishes and toothbrush holders were prepare on the wall with two screws. If the ones in your house are assail the wall like this, look for ii screws right underneath. Loosen the two screws, and pull (slide) the holder up against the wall. Before you exercise that, make sure that the top and side edges of the holder are't sealed against the wall with caulk, or with layers of paint. If the edges are glued to the wall with paint of caulk, clear the edges past cutting the paint or caulk between the wall and holder with a utility knife.

Another very old metallic molar holders are assail a foursquare metallic base of operations on the wall. The base tin have from one to 2 screws, too. Again look for at least ane retaining screw at the bottom edge of the holder, and remove this screw. Clean around the edge of the holder as mentioned above, and lift Up the forepart border of the holder.

Sometimes i tin can't see the screws below because these are covered with several layers of pigment.

Please annotation that without a photo there is non much nosotros tin can do for you lot.

That's not a very old one. Information technology should have a small screw underneath. Loosen the spiral, and lift the front border UP.

Funny you asked almost this cause I had to deal with a few soap and molar brush holder in two of the bath I am cleaning upwards this by weekend. They were ceramic and unfortunately, mine are put in with mud. They put steel mesh behind the wall and ballast it with mud. Needless to say, I have a feel holes to patch up.
